the ship of dreams...

"What does it mean?" she wondered. Her dream was vivid: a golden fish, sprouting from her head; a ship under a blue moon, floating through a sea of aspens. Rebekah knew that one day she would understand the dream.

It just was not time, yet.

Oh, the carnival is in town!

the sad little zombie girl

gert, possessor of the magical eye

Wow everybody! The carnival is in town! If you cannot tell, I am very excited. I absolutely love to meet new people (even if they may be a tad grumpy).

The sad little zombie girl has been my absolute favorite. I think I like her because I believe she is happy. Maybe I will see if she wants to go hunt monsters with me tomorrow....

Samantha

Samantha swears that she is going to see something magical come out from the bottom of the tree. Little does she know, Lady Harriet Bugtall has come and gone on three separate occasions today.

I keep telling Samantha that she is
not going to see anything because she is not enchanted (see "the enchanted forests" post). She refuses to believe me, and still spends every waking minute at the base of the tree.

Miss Magda Matham

I will never forget the day that the hat shop was closed....

Miss Magda Matham was on her way to the hat shop. Every Tuesday, Magda had the store order her a new hat from Paris. This Tuesday, to her horror, she found the doors locked with no explanation.

She freaked out! It was almost as if there was something magical about the hats that kept her alive....

Bella

Bella Matham loves ice cream. A LOT. She has been working at the creamery since she was fourteen years old. Come to think of it, I do not believe that I have ever seen her eat anything besides ice cream.

I suppose it can only be a good thing. I would hate to see her as thin as her sister Magda.

The Men at the Coffee Counter

Milton

Wilfred
Howard
Every morning, at 7:15, these three men sit at Dixie's Coffee Counter.

Milton talks about how he wants to get married.
Wilfred talks about how much he loves pancakes.
Howard talks about the librarian, Ludmilla.

Every day is the same. Sure, the conversations head in different directions at times, but these three things are always mentioned: marriage, pancakes, and Ludmilla.

The Apple and the Aspen

If an apple
fell off of an aspen tree
in the enchanted forest,
would anyone think it odd?

Martha

It is my best friend Martha! She loves to play hide and seek. I have never understood why. I mean, she's a giant! There are not too many things that she can hide behind...

Today, though, she is playing with Henry.

Sometimes, he is easy to fool.

The Queer Little House on the Hill

The house has been empty for years. Old Mr. Gherrity used to live there, but his arthritis got so bad that he could not climb the stairs any longer.

He put it up for sale, however, no one seemed to be interested.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to buy it. We always love to have new people move to town!

Claire

I think that Claire and Viktor are secretly dating. They are both performers, so it makes perfect sense.

Claire was a famous ballerina when she was young. She danced all over the world with a very famous company.

Eventually, she moved here and started a ballet school. I took classes from her for three years, up until she had her accident.

It is a sad story, actually. One day she fell down her attic stairs, and broke her hip. Everyone thought that Claire would be devastated, but she handled it quite well. Maybe she was ready to retire...

The Enchanted Forests

I love to go to the forests. We have two of them that create the borders of our little town. Most of the townspeople cannot see the creatures that reside there, but I can. You see, they are visible to me because I have a bit of enchantment in me. I know that it is only in my eyes, but that is enough...

I will try to capture some monsters a bit later...

To the East...

THE ASPEN GROVE

I call this place, The Forest of 1000 Eyes.
All of the monsters live in the aspen grove. The monsters are friendly, but a little shy. Every once and a while, my friends and I see one. We love those days...

To the West.....

THE LOLLIPOP FOREST

There are no monsters that live in the forest, just enchanted people. My parents grew up here, and my best friend Martha lives here, too. Martha is lucky because she is a real giant.
Sometimes I wish that I had gotten more than my parents eyes...

The Monsters

Hilbert

Magpie

Ahh...Magpie and Hilbert. Magpie LOVES Hilbert, but she won't tell him! Instead, Hilbert sulks around, thinking everyone is making fun of his third eye. Little does he know that the other monsters are just jealous.

I keep telling Magpie to just tell him, and she refuses. They would be absolutely PERFECT together.

I still don't understand why monsters have to be so shy...

Viktor

Everyone in town loves Viktor. When he was younger, he was a vaudeville star. I do not think that he will ever be able to quit the entertainment business. Today, he has chosen to go over the falls in a barrel. The town decided to make an event out of the ordeal. So, from 12-2 pm, absolutely nothing will be open...

Everybody will be watching Viktor!

The Ladies with Purple Hair

These ladies both belong to a "secret" society.
However, when one sees eight women with purple hair, all lunching together, one has to think that something is going on. People say that these are the ladies that truly run the town. I think that they just like the company once a week.

Plus, they always wear black dresses on Sundays...

Betty

Betty always makes me laugh. She walks around like she is angry all of the time. I think that she stays up too late and never gets enough coffee.

Betty has a roommate, Anne, that just graduated and is taking off to DC. I am not sure who is going to move in next...

Ludmilla

Ludmilla is the librarian, downtown. I remember, when I was smaller, that I used to think that she was the most beautiful girl in town. I am not sure if it was the rouge that she wore on her cheeks, or the feathers she put in her hair, but I wanted to grow up to be just like her.

Ludmilla never married. I think that plenty of gentlemen were interested in her hand, but it seemed that none of them interested her.

She is still at the library, where her heart truly resides.
